Key fashion trends of Spring/Summer 2017

The Fashion Weeks are over having left us lots of inspiration and anxious expectation of the following spring. All that remains is to examine the collections of top-level designers chalking up the key fashion trends of the season.

While current fall fashion industry is experiencing nostalgia for the 70s, Spring/Summer 2017 is quotating the 80s. The emblematic codes of the decade – like bulky silohuettes, aerobics suits, bizarre make-up and neon colors – can be traced in the collections of many designers.

So, let’s see the details below.

Big shoulders

Bulky shoulders have become a season’s general fetish. The trend was firstly introduced by Balenciaga’s newcomer Demna Gvasalia in Fall/Winter collection. Now, blazers, trench coats and dresses with an oblongated shoulder line is being demonstrated by lots of fashion brands among which are DKNY, Louis Vuitton, Jil Sander, Celine, Fendi, Kenzo, Stella McCartney,  Simone Rocha, Jacquemus, and others.

1

Liquid metal

A sort of summer 2016 echo is hot metal. Admired by fashionistas gold, silver, bronze and copper got a new treatment at Louis Vuitton, Isabel Marant, Nina Ricci, Peter Pilotto and Mugler’s cosmic outfits. Saint Laurent, Kenzo and John Galliano are among those who actively promote the “molten metal” color. So, there won’t be lack of glitter next year.

2

Feathers and fringe

Ostrich feathers painted in different colors and fringe of varying lengths are the main decorative elements of the following spring. They embelish not only monochrome looks but also outfits with prints, embroidery and appliqué. The whole collection of Prada is created with the use of this techniuqe. And as you may know, whatever Miuccia Prada shows, it becomes a hit.

3

Leather

Despite it’s warm outside, leather, suede and their eco-friendly versions are among the favorites of the next season. They’ve become the absolute hits of Milan Fashion Week shows. For instance, the vast majority of Tod’s latest collection outfits are leather total-looks in noble warm colors. Bottega Veneta, Trussardi, Jil Sander, Balenciaga, Rodarte, Versace, Louis Vuitton, Valentino and Saint Laurent also did due diligence to the leather.

4

Cuts and slits

Next summer, designers suggest baring some parts of your body with the help of lusty cuts and slits. Even notorious deep neckline is back on fashion pedestal.  The trend shall be definitely chalked up but at the same time applied with care not to make the image vulgar. In this case, the best combination for a top with cutouts is a pair of classic flare trousers.

5

La Vie en Rose

Pantone named Rose Quartz the color of the year, and seems like the institute’s been really right. The trend’s been reflected in SS 2017 collections, however the palette of hues has enlarged – from baby pink a-la Barbie doll to Schiaparelli’s shocking pink. It’s a real “Pink Pediod” on the catwalks.

Find neon colors at Balenciaga and Jeremy Scott, raspberry pink – at Trussardi, Blumarine, Sportmax and Balmain, tender peach – at Tory Burch, Paul Smith, Celine and Delpozo, cyclamen and fuchsia – at Nina Ricci, Valentino, Bottega Veneta and Peter Pilotto.

6

Yellow

Yellow, in all its possible forms – from lime to mustard – is no less popular color of the past Fashion Weeks. Lacoste, Alexander Wang, Max Mara, J.W. Anderson and Public School offer primrose, canary-yellow, almost neon can be found at 3.1 Phillip Lim, Tibi and Emilio Pucci, warm tangerine tone is represented in Versus, Narciso Rodriguez and Vionnet’s collections, whereas Mulberry, Gucci and Bottega Veneta suggest noble honey hues.

Though lots of people are sure yellow is not “their color”, we still exhort on acquiring of at least one garment in this color. The most important thing is to choose the right tint basing on your color type. Brunettes and brown-haired will look gorgeous in intense bright hues, while blondes shall pay attention to cold bleached shades.

7

Patchwork

SS17 has become a season of patchwork. By the way, we’re talking not only about a-la rustic apparels. Donatella Versace introduced sport chic mini-dresses made of net and different fabrics with glittering metallic threads, and Giambattista Valli took us up with romantic trench coats that are gay with various patterns. Jonathan Anderson, meanwhile, designed for Loewe a dress created from hundreds of patches.

In short, next spring, handicrafts will be at the peak of fashion.

8

Crop-tops and bras

This trend is meant for the most daring girls. Designers suggest wearing ultrashort tops and bras as a self-dependent garment and also to put them on over conventional t-shirts and blouses. Another one option is to pair a crop-top with a jacket or a low-cut flare translucent dress – sexy enough, yet quite chaste.

9

Stipes, accordion pleats, ruches and floral prints will still remain among snipy trends next year. Besides, boudoir-style attires still maintain a leading position. Thus, many last year’s collections garments won’t loose their relevance.
